Google replaced unlimited storage to 15 GB
Last November, Google - which until now offered
unlimited storage for high-quality snapshots (read: compressed) - announced
that unlimited was being replaced by up to 15 GB on your Google account. In
other words, while image and video storage does not currently count in your
overall of 15 free concert events on a Google account, it will be as of June 1
next - with your Gmail, Google Drive and other stored data. Once you have
reached this 15 GB wall, you will have to buy the Google One provider to
increase your storage capacity. (Unless you own a Pixel, in which case you
still have no limit on “high-quality” snapshots.)
If you're a
Google Photos user who finds all of this a little irritating, you might be
thinking about leaving. But first, it's a good idea to check out your
alternatives. Below are a few of the major peak storage services available,
along with their base charges, so you can determine if you want to switch.
Note: We only included services specifically tailored to peaks, not more
general storage services like OneDrive or Dropbox. Google provides each of its
accounts with 15 GB of free storage. However, in recent years, photographs have
been treated differently: as part of its “high quality” plan, Google stores an
unlimited number of pics for free as long as you allow their compression to 16
megapixels. According to Google, pictures of this size can easily be printed up
to 24 x 16 inches. Videos were kept at a maximum of 1080p. Data such as closed
captions could be eliminated to save space. The “original quality” prices - the
ones that weren't compressed - were not part of this unlimited plan but were
counted as normal files.
Storage
However,
this is all about to change. As mentioned above, from June 1, 2021, Google will
include photos in its storage calculations. Once you hit this 15 GB cap, you
will need to purchase the Google One carrier for additional storage space.
Google One
is currently starting at a hundred GB of storage for $ 1, ninety nine per month
($ 19, ninety nine per year) and goes up to two hundred GB for $ 2.99 per month
($ 29.99 per year) or 2 To for $ 9.99 per month ($ 99, ninety nine per year).
The 2TB plan also comes with a VPN for Android phones.
Before you
jump into investing in Google One, be aware that there are several mitigating
factors that Google recommends to its users. When the new plan comes into
effect, that's when the clock starts; images you uploaded before that date will
not count towards your 15 GB limit. Additionally, if you are a Pixel owner, you
can continue uploading high quality photos without affecting your 15 GB limit.
Go. Of course, Pixel owners used to get unlimited original quality for free,
rather than having to download their pictures in “high quality”. But hey,
that's something. If you're part of the Apple ecosystem, you have easy access
to iCloud Photos, Apple's equivalent to Google Photos. ICloud Photos is
connected to the Phone utility on your Mac or iOS device as a backup of your
pictures. You automatically get five GB of storage space associated with your
iCloud account; after that it costs 99 cents per month for 50gb, 2, ninety nine
$ per month for two hundred gb and 9, ninety nine $ per month for 2TB. (This is
for US; other countries have different fees.) Windows users can also access
iCloud Photos through an associated utility; Android users will need to access
it using a browser.
Flickr also
has a free plan, but it's limited to 1,000 photographs - within certain limits:
Photographic files are limited to 200MB and video files are limited to 1GB. For
unlimited ad-free storage, you pay $ 6.99 per month or fifty nine, ninety nine

stats on how your photos are trending and a variety of discounts from several
companies, including Adobe and SmugMug which are now part of Flickr.
Speaking of
