 Netflix has announced its partnership with Tsuburaya Productions to create a new CG Ultraman movie, in hopes of bringing the popular Japanese character to an even bigger global audience. Ultraman has never been a household name outside of Japan although it has left a huge affect on the popular subculture - the original Los Angeles series Ultraman popularized the 'giant man in costume' style of people disguised as monsters in a model city ”- but Netflix hopes to change that.

The new CG Ultraman film, in addition to leaving the authentic live-motion format of the. A. Franchise, will feature a different version of the character and what looks like a slightly unusual setup for the plot - Ultraman has undergone a 'dadification'. According to the synopsis of Tsuburaya Productions:

Baseball celeb Ken Sato returns to his home country, Japan, to pick up the torch from remarkable-hero Defender of the Earth, Ultraman, but quickly finds more than he bargained for when forced to raising los angeles offspring of its greatest enemy, a newborn Kaiju. The movie will be directed by Shannon Tindle and co-directed by John Aoshima, who previously worked on Disney's Gravity Falls. Tindle's background in animation is varied, having worked in traditional 2D animation as a character designer on Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, and in photo-by-frame animation as the creator of Kubo and the Two Strings of Laika. and character creator / animator on Coraline. Tindle is also currently the showrunner for the Netflix animated series Lost Ollie.
